Defining the News
June 5, 2024, 7:40 pmrecently approved the “Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act,” championed by actor and Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla. The law aims to honor public school teachers by formalizing and boosting their annual teaching allowance.
“At present. teachers are receiving a teaching allowance called ‘chalk allowance’ of P5,000 annually. But due to skyrocketing prices, this chalk allowance is no longer enough. Oftentimes, the teacher spends his/her own money to buy these teaching materials. More than chalk and other classroom supplies for blended modality in teaching, the teachers now need an internet connection, electricity, laptop, and others for more effective teaching,” the senator explained.
According to historical data, public school teachers have been receiving a meager allowance for the actual conduct of teaching. Revilla expressed gratitude to all who supported and pushed them to achieve the approval of the “Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act.”
