AFTER filing Senate Resolution 1100 to congratulate Olympic double gold medalist Carlos Yulo, Senate Committee Chairman on Sports Senator Christopher “Bong” Go followed it with another resolution last week commending the two Paris Olympic bronze medalists.
Go filed Senate Resolutions 1125 and 1124 praising the efforts and bravery done by women boxers Nesthy Petecio and Aira Villegas during their campaign in the French capital that uplifted the nation’s spirits and showcased the Philippines’ prowess in the international sporting arena.
Go emphasized the significance of Villegas’ victory, stating: “Aira Villegas has not only demonstrated remarkable skill and tenacity but has also become a symbol of the Filipino spirit.” A comprehensive post-evaluation report of the successful stint of the Filipino Olympians in the 2024 Paris Summer Olympic Games must come from the government and different sports stakeholders, according to Go.
