Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado has appealed for public cooperation in combating the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) after confirmed cases in a provincial town. While recent measures have prevented further outbreaks, the governor emphasized the need for collective action to protect the local hog industry and economy.

CEBU CITY – Bohol Gov. Aris Aumentado appealed for cooperation in the fight against the spread of African Swine Fever ( ASF ) after cases of the highly contagious disease were confirmed in one of the towns in the province.Fortunately, Aumentado said no new cases were recorded after the recent blood sampling and depopulation of 50 swines in six households. “Despite the threat, we know we can stop the severe effects of ASF on our economy.

We are confident that we can stop the spread of ASF at the fastest time but the provincial government cannot do it alone. We need every Boholano’s help,” said Aumentado. The governor said every Boholano can help through information dissemination and strictly enforcing the measures aimed to prevent the spread of the disease. “Millions are spent to save the livelihood of our hog farmers. The hog industry has a huge impact on the progress of the province’s economy,” Aumentado said. Municipal agriculture officers and the police convened on Tuesday, Jan. 7, to discuss new directives that were released in response to ASF affectation. Dr. Meydallyn Paman, officer-in-charge provincial veterinarian, said there was a need to conduct an orientation on Executive Orders No. 57 and 58 issued by Aumentado. EO 57 imposes a six-month moratorium on boar-for-hire activities, identified as a potential vector for ASF transmission, while EO No. 58 mandates the accreditation of all hog traders operating in the province
