Police say crew members were alerted that the passenger was missing about 11.30pm on Tuesday, when the Pacific Explorer was situated 45 kilometres west of Cape Jaffa in the state’s south-east.

A spokeswoman for Australian Maritime Safety Authority confirmed that the body of a woman was found by a rescue helicopter at around 7am on Wednesday.“AMSA expresses condolences to the family of the deceased,” the spokeswoman said. The Southern Ocean was scoured from the air by search and rescue aircraft and two helicopters on Wednesday morning before the woman’s body was discovered.

“As you can appreciate this has also deeply impacted our remaining guests and crew. We thank all involved who supported this distressing and challenging search operation.”The visit to Kangaroo Island will no longer occur and the ship is expected to return to Melbourne.

‘Completely unexpected’: Police taken by ‘surprise’ in ‘bizarre’ Wieambilla shooting‘Completely unexpected’: Police taken by ‘surprise’ in ‘bizarre’ Wieambilla shootingQueensland Police Union President Ian Leavers says three innocent people have lost their lives simply by “doing the right thing” after two police officers and a man were killed in an “unexpected” attack. Four police officers were ambushed as they attended a rural property in Wieambilla in Queensland’s Western Downs region on Monday afternoon. Two police officers were instantly killed by two alleged gunmen after hopping over the fence of the property. A neighbour who responded to the gunfire was also killed in the ambush. Mr Leavers said the officers attended a “routine” missing person call for service, on behalf of NSW Police, and there was “no evidence” to suggest the four would be met with a “hail of gunfire”. He said the situation is “completely bizarre” and it “doesn’t make sense”. “It took police by surprise and they had no idea their lives were tragically going to be cut short,” he told Sky News Australia. “The two other police officers, how they survived I will never know … we could have had four murdered police officers, but we have two.”
