THE Bureau of Customs has told its examiners to stop looking for sanitary and phytosanitary import clearances for imported non-food and non-feed animal products, such as leather and tanned hides, since the Bureau of Animal Industry stopped issuing such document.

Customs Commissioner Bienvenido Y. Rubio issued Customs Memorandum Circular 101-2023 that contained the advisory regarding the policy changes of BAI in streamlining its import process for non-food and non-feed animal products. The changes in import policy were stipulated in the Department of Agriculture Administrative Circular No. 2 Series of 2023 that outlined the rules and regulations governing the importation of leather and hides and other non-food, non-feed, processed products of animal origin.
