PANGASINAN 2nd District Rep. Mark Cojuangco, who, by himself, is approximately half of the number of people in the Philippines who still believe the never-used, 1970s-vintage Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is a viable option for additional energy supply for the country, engaged in some media outreach last week to lobby for the plant's resurrection, doing interviews for ANC and BusinessWorld.
There may be a sensible justification for that, or there may not — who can tell, with politicians — but in general, anything short of 'overwhelming enthusiasm' on the part of local leadership tends to be a huge obstacle to nuclear development.Politics at the national level, however, may be more pertinent and encouraged Cojuangco to offer a couple of modifications to his 'rehabilitate the BNPP' mantra.
