BMW Motorrad Philippines presents the latest additions to its Heritage line of models, the R12 and R12 NineT.
The same 1,170cc air/oil-cooled boxer engine powers both models. It comes with a new, fully integrated airbox under the seat and a new left-mounted twin-flow exhaust system. Both are built on a tubular bridge steel spaceframe. The R12 has a steel tank reminiscent of the"Toaster Tanks" of the 1970s BMW /5 models. This is to give it a classic teardrop shape expected of a cruiser. It forms a descending line in combination with the solo seat and curved, low-mounted rear wheel cover.
The R12 produces 95-hp and 110 Nm of torque. Helping the rider reign that power in are Roll and Rock riding modes. The frame differs from the R NineT series by eliminating the need for the previous front and rear main frames, reducing the weight and giving them a cleaner and more classic appearance. The rear frame of the R12 NineT, also made of tubular steel, is bolted to the main frame.
