DAGUPAN CITY — Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas called on the Catholic faithful to join a rosary campaign to stop China 's 'insidious attempts' to 'trample our sacred shores.''Let us do it again! The rosary is simple and small and powerful like the mustard seed in the Gospel,' said Villegas in a pastoral letter read in all Masses in the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan last Sunday.
Villegas said that China's provocative actions against Philippine Coast Guard vessels at the Escoda Shoal placed it well within the Philippine exclusive economic zone.'Not only are our maritime zones usurped and our fishermen evicted from their fishing grounds. Our marine environment is relentlessly wrecked as China endeavors to convert features into islands and militarized platforms,' Villegas said.
