BIR Shuts Down Restaurant and Warehouse for Tax Evasion in Cebu

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) closed a restaurant and warehouse in Cebu, Philippines, for tax evasion. The establishments were found to be under-declaring income and failing to register as required VAT taxpayers, violating Section 115 of the Tax Code of 1997. Non-compliance with the closure order could lead to criminal charges.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) shut down a warehouse and restaurant suspected of tax evasion in Cebu , Philippines . The operation was conducted due to numerous discrepancies in their tax reports. The restaurant, located in Mabolo, Cebu , and the warehouse in Subangdaku, Mandaue, were temporarily closed for the failure to declare income as per Section 115 of the Tax Code of 1997.

The BIR reported that the establishment was under-declaring income by over 30 percent and had not registered as a VAT taxpayer despite exceeding the required threshold. Failure to comply with the closure order could result in criminal charges under Section 151 of the Revised Penal Code
