A BILL has been filed in the House of Representatives bill that promotes the welfare of media workers.
House Bill 1985 was filed last July 16 by Camarines Sur 5th District Rep. Migz Villafuerte, Camarines Sur 2nd District Rep. Luigi Villafuerte, Camarines Sur 1st District Rep. Tsuyoshi Anthony Horibata, and Bicol Saro Rep. Terry Ridon.In a statement on Sunday, the authors said they aim to ensure that media workers receive a minimum wage, overtime pay, night shift premiums, hazard pay, and other forms of compensation under the Labor Code.
”Under HB 1985, media workers, upon employment, will be covered by the Social Security System, Home Development Mutual Fund or Pag-IBIG Fund, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.A hazard pay of P500 per day will cover media practitioners who are “required to physically report for work in dangerous areas such as strife-torn or embattled areas, distressed or isolated stations, disease-infested areas or in areas declared under a state of calamity or emergency.
