MANILA, Philippines: Filipina motorsports racer Bianca Bustamante has joined the McLaren Driver Development program, while continuing to race with the F1 Academy.
McLaren made the announcement on Wednesday via its social media platforms and in an announcement on its website, Formula 1 also noted that the 18-year-old Bustamante is the first female driver to join the McLaren program.'As part of the program, Bustamante will represent McLaren on the 2024 F1 Academy grid and run their livery, switching to race with ART Grand Prix,' F1 said in a statement on Wednesday.
'Bustamante said in video on the McLaren Instagram page that she always wanted the British side.'I'm so grateful for this opportunity as I believe I now have the best possible development structure around me to take the next step up in my career, and for this I am so thankful.
