Benitez to present QR code-based IDs to Senate

Bacolod City Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has been invited to attend a Senate hearing on Thursday, December 5, regarding the widespread use of fake Person with Disability identification cards. City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting, Jr. confirmed yesterday that the mayor will present the city’s innovation in issuing new Quick Response code-based IDs for both PWDs and Senior Citizens.

To address the proliferation of fake PWD IDs, Bacolod City had recalled all existing PWD IDs and began issuing new QR code-based IDs for both PWDs and Senior Citizens. Ting reported that as of November 26, Bacolod City had issued a total of 50,433 Senior Citizen IDs and 17,078 PWD IDs with QR codes. The implementation of QR code IDs for PWDs and Senior Citizens began in February 2024, following complaints about the circulation of fake IDs.
