Former Interior chief Benhur Abalos Jr. , a senatorial candidate under the Alyansa Para sa Pagbabago 2025, pledged to strengthen the country’s anti-graft policies to support the Marcos administration’s anti-corruption efforts. Abalos made this statement following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s address at the 5th State Conference on the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Implementation and Review in Malacañang.
President Marcos reiterated his administration’s commitment to fighting corruption, recognizing the challenges posed by systemic vulnerabilities and changing political conditions. He emphasized the importance of institutional reforms and effective governance to combat the harmful effects of corruption on public trust and economic growth. Abalos highlighted the need for stronger laws and more effective implementation of existing anti-corruption measures. He cited the importance of laws such as the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials, and the Ombudsman Act. Abalos also emphasized the significance of transparency in government procurement, citing his achievements as Mandaluyong mayor in simplifying business registration processes and reducing human intervention
