Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa on Tuesday berated two Misamis Occidental police officers for being insubordinate with Philippine National Police Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. during an operation.
During a Senate Committee on Public Order investigation into the operation in which a suspension order was served against Bonifacio Municipal Mayor Samson Dumanjug, Dumanjug's lawyer, Atty. Rajane Gallego, testified that she had called Acorda and asked the PNP chief to “pacify the situation.”
Phone in hand and with Acorda at the other end of the line, she went to the local police station so the PNP Chief could speak with Bonifacio Police Office Chief Police Major Richel Sumagang and Mahinog Municipal Station Deputy Chief of Police Police Captain Mark Albert Bienes.
He also argued that if it is really Acorda, the PNP Chief should have directly called their provincial commander. Dela Rosa responded, “Pasensya na, but I’m very disgusted because I was once a chief PNP. Alam ko kahit na patrolman ‘yan to the three-star general, if I'm the head of the organization, lahat ‘yan sumusunod sa akin at natatakot ‘yan kung di ako kausapin. Pero kayo iniwasan niyo ang chief PNP niyo?”
The Committee on Public Order is looking into Dumanjug's allegations that the PNP and several unidentified persons had treated him inhumanely and violently and behaved irregularly while serving the suspension order against him.
