International Container Terminal Services Inc. said on Monday it plans to construct a new $800-million international container terminal in Bauan, Batangas. With the first berth anticipated to be operational by the end of 2027, the terminal is poised to become the second-largest container facility in the country, following the Manila International Container Terminal at the Port of Manila.

“The new terminal represents a significant leap forward for Southern Luzon. We are building a world-class facility that will unlock a wave of economic benefits for the region and the country. It will create new employment opportunities, improve the quality of life for our host communities and the industries located around the terminal, and solidify Southern Luzon’s position as a key player in global trade,” ICTSI EVP Christian R. Gonzalez said.

Gonzales noted that the terminal’s strategic location positions it as the premier international gateway for shippers within the Calabarzon region, whose local output—pegged at P3.1 trillion—accounts for 15 percent of the nation’s total GDP and per capita Household Final Consumption Expenditure. Calabarzon, one of the country’s fastest-growing regions, recorded a 5.2-percent growth rate last year.
