Tourist attractions in Basey, Samar will soon be more accessible to the public with the start of construction by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) of a bypass road project connecting Barangay Magallanes and Barangay Guirang.

With Basey home to the popular Sohotan National Park and Balantak Falls, the bypass road is expected to increase tourism to the town by reducing travel time from almost three and a half hours to an hour and a half.

DPWH Secretary Mark Villar said the project’s implementation was undertaken by the Regional Office 8 and Samar 2nd District Engineering Office under Director Nerie Bueno. “We expect to complete the 5.15-kilometer bypass road, including the construction of a 564-lineal meter wharf, by 2020 to open Basey to more tourists and business opportunities,” Villar said recently.

Villar also added that since Basey is known for different cottage industries including mat weaving, pottery, and furniture making, the project is also seen to bring different kinds of business and job opportunities for the locals.Related Posts
