In a separate incident, military forces in Maguindanao del Sur foiled a bombing attempt on December 27th by discovering an improvised explosive device (IED) in Barangay Iginagampong, Datu Unsay town. Civilians alerted the military about the IED, leading to its safe deactivation by bomb experts. The device consisted of a live RPG, an M61 hand grenade, and a timer. Lt. Col. Rowel Gavilanes, commander of the Army 90th Infantry Battalion, praised civilian cooperation in ensuring community safety. Barangay Iginagampong was previously a hideout for the outlawed Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).
