Isinulat umano ni Jose Corazon de Jesus ang tula ng “Bayan Ko” noong 1920s, habang ginawa itong musika ni Constancio de Guzman.Ginawa umanong warning ng mga Pilipino noong WWII ang awitin kapag may dumarating na Hapon, kung saan sinisipol daw ng mga ito ang himig ng kanta sa mga baryo para alam ng mga guerilla na paparating na ang mga Hapon at makapagtago sila.
