BAGUIO CITY — Boxer Hergie Bacyadan did not win a medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics but he was warmly welcomed in his hometown Kalinga with a ceremony befitting for a gold medalist.
The 29-year-old Bacyadan was first welcomed by proud villagers and local officials of Taloctoc in Tanudan, Kalinga who rendered him with cultural presentations and was blessed by a respected elder during traditional rites.The provincial government of Kalinga led by Gov. James Edduba and Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang also honored the first Olympian from the province with a motorcade in the capital city of Tabuk on September 9.
Even though she did not win a medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics, boxer Hergie Bacyadan was given a hero’s welcome in his village in Taloctoc, Tanudan, Kalinga on Sept. 9, 2024. He was also honored by the provincial government with a motorcade and was given P500,000 cash incentive and a framed resolution commending him for bringing pride and honor to the people of Kalinga.
Thousands of residents, including students, lined up at the parade route to cheer for their new sports hero.He was paraded from the rotunda to the Kalinga Sports Center, where he was formally awarded a plaque of special recognition from the provincial government, a P500,000 incentive, and a framed copy of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution 2024-222, commending him for bringing honor and pride to the province.
