Bacolod City Councilor Celia Matea Flor urges tenants of Manokan Country to utilize their food vouchers before the February 16, 2025, expiration date. Only a fraction of the 2,000 vouchers have been used so far.
Bacolod City Councilor Celia Matea Flor, the chairperson of the City Council committee on market, has urged recipients of food vouchers distributed in Manokan Country to utilize them before their expiration date on February 16, 2025. As of February 12, 2025, only 435 vouchers out of the 2,000 distributed have been redeemed at the temporary spaces of Manokan Country tenants at the SM City terminal hub.
Councilor Flor emphasized the importance of using the vouchers promptly, reminding recipients that their validity is limited. She highlighted that the initiative to provide P500,000 worth of food vouchers originated from Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez to support tenants who have relocated to temporary spaces. The City Government had previously provided P20,000 assistance to each tenant, and the food vouchers are being donated by the private sector. Flor reported that 24 tenants have already transitioned to temporary spaces at the SM City terminal hub, each eligible to receive a total of P20,700 in food vouchers. They will be able to collect the vouchers and claim payment from the mayor's staff starting February 17. Flor acknowledged that the relocation process is still ongoing, and both tenants and customers are adapting to the new environment. Additionally, she announced that SM City will begin fencing the existing Manokan Country building on February 21. On October 20, 2023, the City Government of Bacolod entered into a contract agreement with SM Prime for the redevelopment of the iconic Manokan Country. SM Prime has already transferred P131.89 million to the City Government for this purpose.
