Bacolod preps evac centers for Mt. Kanlaon evacuees

THE City Government of Bacolod is preparing evacuation centers in anticipation of a potential eruption of Mount Kanlaon.Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez announced Tuesday, Feb 25, 2025, that the city is ready to accommodate evacuees from all potentially affected cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental.

He emphasized that the City has not signed any formal agreement with affected local government units because it is willing to accommodate evacuees from various areas in Negros Occidental.Office of Civil Defense Director Raul Fernandez added that additional evacuation centers are being sought as part of preparations for a worst-case scenario, which could require evacuating up to 100,000 people. The Regional Incident Management Team is coordinating with LGUs to ensure readiness.
