Before performing, each member of the group hugged Nick Carter after showing Aaron’s photo on the screen. “We all grew up together. We’ve been through highs and lows, up and downs. You guys have been through it with us, we’ve been through it with you,” Kevin Richardson told the audience.“He’s a part of our family,” Richardson said. “We thank you guys for all your love, all your well wishes, and all your support.”The group launched into an acapella performance of “Breathe” in Aaron’s honor.
On Saturday, Aaron died at the age of 34. The singer’s career began in the ’90s when, at the age of nine, he opened for the Backstreet Boys.
