Immigration officials are clearing a backlog of visas as quickly as humanly possible but there has been 4 million new applications in just seven months.
Australia has been inundated with 4 million new visa applications.Having added an extra 400 staff to process the backlog of visas the Albanese government inherited when it came to office, Immigration Minister Andrew Giles has pointed to a reduction of 150,000 visas in just six weeks, leaving the outstanding pile at 600,000.AdvertisementProcessing the backlog comes as the immigration department received an additional 4 million new visa applications since June 1.
“Onshore bridging visas got up to 375,000 and they managed to pull that back to 270,000, so that’s a good outcome,” Mr Rivzi said. Students are being told to submit their applications at least six weeks ahead of the time of their course starting to stave off disappointment, and not to book flights until after the visa has been approved.
However, the Department of Home Affairs has created an online form so students and supervisors can inquire about the status of their visa.of Australia’s notoriously complicated immigration system.
