Fergie, a one\u002Dmonth\u002Dold alpaca, is still missing after disappearing from a Kingston farm two weeks ago.
In his mind, it doesn’t make sense for a coyote to carry an animal 800 metres to the nearest tree line. Because of these factors, the family believe Fergie was stolen. Van Winckle can’t, however, pinpoint the motivation behind stealing a baby alpaca.
Van Winckle and his wife were out of town Aug. 14 and 15, so they had a farm hand who came to their farm mid-afternoon on the first day. When she returned later in the evening the next day, Fergie was gone. After conducting a search of the field, it was clear the alpaca had vanished. “They’re social creatures. They’re living, breathing, feeling animals. … One of the things that’s kind of eaten me up inside is looking into Celia’s eyes. She’s feeling it on a profound level. She saw what happened and she’s thinking about her baby,” he said.Article contentFergie’s possible theft has left an uneasy feeling of violation for Van Winckle’s wife, especially when considering their young children.
