Veteran director and producer Bobby Garcia, known for his prolific work in theater, died at the age of 55.
MANILA, Philippines — Veteran and award-winning director and producer Bobby Garcia passed away. He was 55 years old.Garcia's friend, TV host Boy Abunda, confirmed the news on Wednesday afternoon during the broadcast of his program, 'Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.' And wherever you are — I know you're in heaven. Bobby, I want you to know that you are loved,' Abunda ended.No further details of Garcia's passing are available as of posting time.Garcia was a prolific figure in theater, not just in the Philippines. He has a Masters of Fine Arts degree in Directing for Theatre from the University of British Columbia and a Bachelor's Degree from Fordham University in New York.In 1999, Garcia founded one of Asia's most prolific and successful theater companies, Atlantis Productions/ Atlantis Theatrical Group of Companies.According to his website, he has directed over 50 plays and musicals in Canada and throughout the Asian region. As a producer has spearheaded over 65 productions (including 20 international premieres) in the Asian region.Among his most prolific works was 'Here Lies Love,' which earned four Tony Award nominations.One of Garcia's last works was 'Request sa Radyo' the local adaptation of 'Request Program' starring Dolly de Leon and Lea Salonga.
