More than a thousand boxes of frozen poultry products from China were seized from a container van at Barangay San Rafael Village, Navotas City Wednesday evening.
Personnel of the National Meat Inspection Service , the Department of Agriculture , and the Navotas City Police Station led the operation at around 9:30 p.m.
Investigation showed that authorities received a tip that a container van was unloading frozen poultry products from China at a warehouse in Navotas. Police said the driver of the container van denied knowing anything about the products that they were unloading. The agriculture department is enforcing a ban on meat products from China amid threats of avian flu virus and African swine flu entering the country.The owner of the warehouse, who has yet to be identified, may face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 9296 and Republic Act No. 10536 or The Meat Inspection Code of the Philippines.
