But Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison said the country was still"many weeks away" from lifting any restrictions. Australia registered just 63 new infections on Sunday and Monday, bringing the total number of cases to 6,366 for a population of 25 million.New Zealand, a nation of 5 million, saw just 8 new cases on Tuesday for a total of 1,072, its lowest daily increase in more than 3 weeks.

"Our goal has to be go early and go hard, so that we get into a position where we can ease up restrictions with confidence," she said, adding that no action would be taken for at least another week.
