The conditions in Brisbane massively favoured bowlers - but one of Australia's greatest-ever batters says that might not be a bad thing. WWOS
Scores of 300, or even 400 have been commonplace at the Gabba in recent summers of cricket, with the batter-friendly conditions on full display."I think Test match cricket should be more about the bowlers, and it's much more interesting when they're in the game. I don't like scores of 500 versus 400, which we had too much of for a couple of decades," Taylor said.
"You don't necessarily want two-day matches, but I've been saying for a while I think we should consider four-day matches, where you can leave more grass on the pitches, and if you happen to get a flat one, you put the onus back on the captains to be a bit more courageous with their decision-making."
But whereas in the past they could lean on the likes of a Graeme Smith, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers or Faf du Plessis, it's a relatively fresh group of players."Looking at [Temba] Bavuma, I think he's improved as a batsman from what I've seen a few years ago, and [Sarel] Erwee, the opening bat - he didn't make any runs but he looks a decent player to me, he looks like he has the technique that can prosper in this game.
