ASIC has started civil penalty proceedings in the Federal Court against 11 current and former directors and officers of The Star Entertainment Group for alleged breaches of their duties.
ASIC also alleges that board members, when provided with information about money laundering risks affecting Star, did not take steps to make further enquiries of management about those critical risks and that this was a breach of their director duty obligations. Those statements disguised the fact that Star was permitting CUP cards to be used for gambling, which was prohibited by CUP.

New York Fed sees US inflation expectations fallCommSec’s Tom Piotrowski says the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s measure of inflation, in relation to consumer expectation, has fallen to its lowest level since August 2021. Respondents in the central bank’s Survey of Consumer Expectations expected one-year inflation to be 5.2 per cent. “That dovetails with some data that we’ve seen recently according to the University of Michigan,” he told Sky News Australia. “The markets took a little bit of stock from that.” Presented by CommSec.
