KUALA LUMPUR: Asean should remain independent and a zone of neutrality amid the heightened US-China rivalry, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said this in an interview with China’s national broadcaster CCTV aired on Friday’s night. The interview was recorded during his three-day official visit to Beijing last week.
He said the region should not be the ground for power contest nor should it be allowed to be engrossed in unnecessary provocation arising from the rivalry.
