REPORTS persist that the United States has recently shipped some nuclear missiles to the Philippines. There are no details, and these remain officially unconfirmed, but given the kind of patron-client state relationship that exists between our two countries, there seems to be no doubt about it.
We may not have a single nuclear shelter in which to hide when the missiles start flying, but if we have enough of them in our arsenal, the enemy might think twice before targeting us.In 1970, during the hearings of the US Senate subcommittee on 'US Agreements and Commitments Abroad' under Sen. Stuart Symington, it was revealed that some nuclear weapons had been stored in the Philippines without its consent.
Even if the reported missile/s transfer to the Philippines were true, the Marcos government is not obliged to announce it. But for obvious reasons the missile/s would have to be deployed inside the military sites occupied by the US forces under the 2014 US-Philippine Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement . Using the Cuban missile crisis playbook, if China were the US, it would probably have made a lot of noise about it. Surprisingly, China has not done so.
