Archdiocese of Manila to conduct second collection for typhoon victims

Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula has called on the faithful to extend assistance to survivors of typhoon Egay which has caused massive destruction in several parts of Luzon.

Aside from financial aid, His Eminence appealed to the faithful to help provide the victims with basic necessities such as food and water.

The Church leader said a second collection will be done in all masses in parishes under the jurisdiction of the Manila archdiocese on Saturday, July 29 and on Sunday, July 30 to raise funds for the typhoon victims. “As we offer our prayers and sacrifices for the victims of typhoon Egay, we will help our brothers and sisters alleviate their sufferings,” said Cardinal Advincula.According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council , 13 national roads in Northern Luzon were temporarily closed, five persons died and several others were injured.

The Archdiocese of Manila earlier offered prayers for the safety and well being of all those who will be affected by the weather disturbance. Meanwhile, Caritas Manila, the social action arm of the archdiocese, has reached out to the affected dioceses for relief operations and assistance.
