The first COVID-19 case in Aparri, Cagayan is a 77-year old woman who is a locally stranded individual from Metro Manila

The town of Aparri in Cagayan province announced on Monday its first COVID-19 case.

Cagayan Valley Medical Center Chief Dr. Glenn Matthew Baggao said the first COVID-19 infection in Aparri is a 77-year old woman who is a locally stranded individual from Metro Manila.Baggao added the patient immediately took the swab test, which yielded a positive result. She had also been found to have underlying medical conditions like heart disease, hypertension, and diabetes.

He said the patient came to a hospital in Quezon City in August to do a medical check-up after experiencing pneumonia. She went out of the hospital a few days after and returned home to Aparri upon her recovery. After a few weeks, the patient experienced coughs and chest pains and she was eventually brought to Lyceum of Aparri Hospital. She was transferred to the CVMC on Sept. 12.

Cagayan province has now 332 confirmed COVID-19 cases, along with 56 active cases. Some 21 of these infected patients are confined at the CVMC.
