Tourist magnet Boracay is getting full entering the Holy Week break, a member of the Boracay Foundation board of directors said Monday.
“Not at 100% full but it’s getting there. Some rooms are still available,” Neneth Graf, of the Boracay Foundation said in a TeleRadyo Serbisyo interview. Graf said tourist arrivals have reached up to 8,000 daily, and reminded the public to transact only with legitimate tour organizers due to the proliferation of online scammers.
But she noted the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has yet to establish rules on the carrying capacity of Boracay, named 2012’s Best Island in the World by international travel magazine Travel+Leisure. Graf said tourist restrictions to the island paradise have been eased, with dusk to dawn beach parties already allowed. Fire dances are also allowed in front of the Red Coconut Beach Hotel, but smoking and drinking on the beach remain disallowed.Upcoming events on the island include beach volleyball and dragonboat tournaments.
