Angeles City, Philippines, issues a health advisory after reporting five suspected cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD). The city government is taking proactive measures to prevent the spread of the disease, including school disinfection and contact tracing.

Angeles City in the Philippines has issued a health advisory to the public following reports of five suspected cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease ( HFMD ). The city government has taken prompt action to mitigate the potential spread of the disease, particularly among young children. All suspected cases involve children aged 5 years old and below, and they are currently under home isolation.

The city health office (CHO) has emphasized that HFMD is a viral illness characterized by fever, rashes on the palms, fingers, and soles of the feet, along with sores in the mouth and pain in the affected areas. To prevent further infections, the CHO has initiated contact tracing to identify the source of the disease and individuals who have come into contact with suspected cases. Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr. has ordered the disinfection of all public and private elementary schools as a proactive measure. This disinfection process, utilizing Anolyte, an eco-friendly disinfectant solution, will commence on February 1st and continue until 6 pm. The mayor has reassured the public that the local government prioritizes the health and well-being of all Angeleños, especially the youth. Parents and teachers are urged to reinforce proper hygiene practices among children, including frequent handwashing, cleaning and disinfecting personal items, and avoiding the sharing of utensils. The CHO encourages parents to equip their children with personal alcohol and sanitation kits for regular hand disinfection. Additionally, the city epidemiology and surveillance unit has launched an investigation and laboratory testing of samples to confirm the suspected cases. Results are anticipated within five days
