Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s recent withdrawal of her reelection candidacy left many people speculating about a possible national bid. But is a victory in the 2022 polls guaranteed?

"But to her non-supporters, it's getting tiring and getting crazier by the day. We forget the ugly fact that she is a Duterte potentially succeeding another Duterte. It hardly represents change," Franco said. The political analyst believes that it's high time the Commission on Elections regulate the substitution scheme among political candidates, because it only undermines the integrity of the elections.
The uncertainties surrounding Mayor Duterte's bid is also reflective of the culture within political parties"lacking coherent ways" to recruit candidates for public office, she added.Davao City councilor and Sara All Philippines co-convenor Danilo Dayanghirang denied the mayor's candidacy withdrawal was scripted, but admitted she"seemed to be in the middle of a storm" due to pressure from her supporters and political peers urging her to run for the highest post.
Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez previously defended the substitution scheme, noting that imposing a ban would only hold a political party hostage to the whim of an indecisive aspirant.
