Citing the few active registered nurses in the country, a pro-health congressman in pushing for the institutionalization of q scholarship and return service program for nursing students in the current 19th Congress. ManilaBulletin

AnaKalusugan Party-list Rep. Ray Reyes justifies his filing of House Bill No. 6631, or the proposed “Nursing Scholarship and Return Service Program Act".

The measure seeks to provide scholarships to deserving students in state universities and colleges or private higher education institutions in regions taking up bachelor’s degree in nursing. Data from the Professional Regulatory Commission show that as of March 24, 2023, only 53.55 percent of the 951,105 registered nurses in the country are active.

Once the student finishes the degree, they are also required to take the board examination within a maximum period of one year, of which the cost will be covered.
