TEXAS — Beauty and Brain: Ito ang nagpanalo sa 25-taong-gulang na si Averie Daniela Sabalilang Bishop sa Miss Texas 2022 beauty pageant, ang kauna-unahang Filipino-American na nakakuha ng korona.
Anak ng isang Pinay immigrant na si Marevi Sabalilang na taga-Banga, South Cotabato, si Averie, na siya ring kauna-unahang Asian-American na kakatawan sa Texas sa Miss America pageant sa Disyembre.
Ayon kay Averie, biktima siya ng pambu-bully at masasakit na salita noong kanyang kabataan dahil sa pagiging Asyano. "A lot of times people are racist or say rude things because they just don’t understand what they don't know."
