The northern regions brace for moderate to intense rains on Saturday morning as tropical storm Ambo crosses Ilocos Sur, the weather bureau said.
The center of Ambo was in Santa Cruz, Ilocos Sur at 7 a.m., according to the latest weather bulletin. Signal No. 2 is up in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, the eastern portion of Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, northern portion of Nueva Ecija, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Babuyan Islands, and the northwestern portion of Cagayan.
Before weakening into a storm, the first typhoon this year battered Bicol and Samar Island in the past two days, knocking down trees, power poles and destroying structures, including a church, gymnasium.
