Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has confirmed Tim Pallas will remain the state’s treasurer, while refusing to heed calls for a pause of major projects.

New Premier Jacinta Allan has confirmed Left factional ally Tim Pallas will remain Victoria’s treasurer, after his bid to become her deputy was halted in a fight that installed the Right’s Ben Carroll to the post.

On her first day in the job, Ms Allan denied Labor unity had been disrupted by Mr Carroll’s challenge for the leadership after the shock resignation earlier this week of Daniel Andrews. Victorian Premier Jacinta Allans says she will have her new cabinet in place before parliament resumes next Tuesday.The leadership bid netted Mr Carroll the deputy premier’s post under a deal struck to avoid triggering party rules that require a state-wide vote of members that could’ve dragged out the leadership question for weeks.
