MANILA, Philippines — Filipina tennis sensation Alex Eala has a loaded schedule in 2025, with one tournament after another.
Eala continued to raise the Philippine flag high despite ending her US Open campaign with a 6-4, 6-3 loss to Cristina Bucsa of Spain in the second round on Aug. 27, 2025 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Court in New York City.The No. 75 Eala absorbed a tough loss after committing 21 unforced errors, while No. 95 Bucsa wasted no chance and took advantage of the Filipina's errors, especially in the crucial stretch of the match.
What’s next for the Filipina Tennis Sensation? Eala is set to compete in the São Paulo Open in Brazil, which runs from September 8th to the 14th. This will be the first time in 25 years that São Paulo has hosted a WTA tournament She is expected to be among the top five seeds, a group that includes Mexico's Renata Zarazúa and Argentina's Solana Sierra.Eala will be competing alongside prominent players such as world No. 21 Beatriz Haddad Maia and Hailey Baptiste.
