MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas captured back-to-back wins in the 22nd Princess Cup U18 Women's Southeast Asian Volleyball Championship after taking down Malaysia in four sets, 25-20, 27-29, 25-22, 25-18, at the Nakhon Pathom in Thailand on Sunday.After a strong start and a dominating win against Singapore, 25-14, 25-6, 25-12, last Saturday, the Taka Minowa-mentored squad carried its momentum to take a 2-0 win-loss record in the preliminaries.
Tied at 27-all in the second canto, Malaysia put up a fight in the extended second frame after two consecutive runs to tie the match, 29-27. In the third set, Alas held a 15-9 lead, capped by Denesse Daylisan's kill. However, Malaysia trailed close and kept up with Philippines to trim the lead to one, 18-17. Philippines kept its composure down the stretch as Lianne Penuliar slammed a down-the-line hit to give Alas a 2-1 set upper hand, 25-22.
