Shadow frontbencher Alan Tudge is set to resign from Parliament on Thursday, prompting speculation that Josh Frydenberg could return.

Mr Tudge, who holds the outer Melbourne seat of Aston, has been absent from Question Time during the first sitting week of 2023.

Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell said speculation has now emerged that former treasurer Josh Frydenberg could seek to re-enter Parliament by winning the by-election.“But he has always had his sights on getting Kooyong again off Monique Ryan.” Mr Tudge has held Aston since 2010 and been the Minister for Human Services, Education, and Citizenship and Multicultural Affairs.

The Prime Minister will determine when the by-election occurs, likely in the next two to three months.
