The Aklan Police Provincial Office emerged on top of the Police Regional Office-6 Civil Disturbance Management Competition recently.
“This is for the unpredictable crowds, the potential for violence while being able to delicately balance between control and respect for human rights,” said Police Brig. Gen. Sidney Villaflor, PRO-6 chief, of the competition that tested the skills and capabilities of police forces across Western Visayas region in handling protests and other civil disturbances.
POLICE showcase their skills in the civil disturbance management competition in Camp Delgado, the regional police headquarters in Iloilo City. The competition was also meant to test the ability of police to exercise judgement in tense situations in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental provinces as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.
Civil disturbance management includes incidents such as violent protests, hostage incidents, or riots. “Exercising judgment means having compassion, to diffuse tensions with empathy, and to build bridges of understanding in the face of division. Our aim should always be to serve and protect, even in the most difficult circumstances,” said Villaflor.related stories
