IN the wake of the inequities laid bare by the pandemic, self-paced learning has been a pathway to overcome learning gaps in the Philippines.
Through assessments that are fair, inclusive and closely aligned to learning objectives, students are better motivated to succeed, and the resulting outcomes are better reflections of what they’ll need to accomplish in life beyond schooling. This approach also safeguards against the risk of misconduct by helping students connect the dots between assessment tasks and their future aspirations, then taking ownership of their learning.
Adapting this way is key to overcoming the lack of guidance that has earlier affected students; more so during the self-paced learning they encounter today, which potentially seals bonds between students and teachers, as well as their peers. But students do not always say, or even know, where they are struggling, as it can feel overwhelming to communicate. Having insightful, actionable analytics can get to the crux of classroom challenges by helping inform educators of patterns in student performance that indicate where knowledge gaps or mastery is occurring across a cohort or course. They’ll gain visibility of the key concepts students were able to grasp, which they did not, and whether tests are too easy or too difficult.
