Three major dams have started to release water before reaching their spilling level, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Sunday.

Pagasa hydrologist Richard Orendain told The Manila Times that one gate of Ipo Dam was opened at past 6 a.m. Sunday after reaching its normal high water level of 101 meters. Also, he said five gates of the Ambuklao Dam in Benguet have been opened at 2.50 m each while six gate of Binga Dam also in the same province were opened at 3.30 m.As of 6 a.m. Sunday, Ambuklao's reservoir water level was 751.53 meters while Binga's was 573.23 meters.

The water that is being released from these two dams is directly going to the San Roque Dam which has still low water level,' Orendain said. With a water level of 257.89 meters, the Pangasinan dam would still need more rain to reach its 280 m NHWL, he said.Days of rain also elevated the water level in Angat Dam, the main source of water supply for Metro Manila and adjoining provinces. The dam's water level was 201.43 meters Sunday, 8.57 meters below its NHWL of 210 meters.
