Missiles targeted at civilians serve no other purpose but to terrorize the population
To understand the significance of Russia’s terrorism, it’s important to know that, in recent months, Ukraine has bifurcated into two worlds. At the hotspots near the frontline, misery is omnipresent and shelling rains with hellish regularity. Outside these areas, many parts of the country have reclaimed some tenuous normalcy — an achievement that not only prevents economic collapse, but also allows Ukrainians to live with dignity in defiance of war.
But that calm cracked this week as Russian President Vladimir Putin sent 84 missiles and drones into Ukraine, at an, of which 30 were not intercepted by Ukrainian defences. The missiles did not strike targets of any military significance, but rather were aimed at civilians during the busiest time of day, with no discernable goal beyond reinjecting terror into their lives and creating the impression that, even if they do not live near the frontlines, death can come at any time.Article content.
