Actors-turned-senators Robin Padilla and Jinggoy Estrada filed separate resolutions in the Senate paying tribute to Jaclyn Jose who passed away last March 2 from cardiac arrest.
Padilla, who hailed the fallen actress born Mary Jane Santa Ana Guck, as an “icon of professionalism, grace and talent in the entertainment industry” filed Senate Resolution 943 where he sought to have the Senate express “profound sympathy and sincere condolences” on her passing.
Padilla added Jose became the first Filipino and Southeast Asian in 2016 to win the Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actress in her exemplary performance in “Ma’Rosa.” She was also honored by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts at the Ani ng Dangal Ceremony in 2017 for this achievement.
“Nakaukit sa kasaysayan ng pelikulang Pilipino ang mga parangal at pagkilala sa natatanging galing at talento niya at mahirap itong matumbasan,” Estrada said as he filed Senate Resolution No. 942 expressing profound sympathy and sincere condolences on Jose’s passing. Estrada added that Jose’s remarkable Cannes’ nod paved the way for the filing of Senate Bill No. 1032 or the proposed World-Class Filmmakers’ Incentives Act which seeks to promote the production of world-class Filipino films by granting tax perks.
