Fire and Rescue NSW Acting Commissioner Jeremy Fewtrell has addressed the fallout from a significant CBD fire, emphasising that ongoing safety measures and engineering assessments are necessary due to the instability of the affected structures.

“We have had to evacuate the building … because of the concerns the engineers had about the wall at the rear of the fire building and the way that that was bulging and potentially heading towards the adjoining unit block,” Mr Fewtrell said during a media conference on Friday.

“The building to the right of the fire scene … that’s had the power cut off as part of the electricity authorities’ work to cut the power to the fire buildings.
