FORMER Police Colonel Eduardo Acierto alleged on Thursday that former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte acted as a “protector” for suspected drug lords Michael Yang and Allan Lim (alias Lin Weixiong), who he claims were close to Duterte and evaded accountability under his protection.

Acierto cited the experiences of his former subordinates, Police Capt. Lito Perote and MSgt. Gerry Liwanag. Perote was reportedly abducted in April 2019 in Bacolod City and remains missing, while Liwanag was shot dead in San Jose del Monte City in February 2021. Acierto suspects these incidents were linked to their investigative efforts.
Nicknamed “Dragon” for a tattoo on his back, Yang allegedly facilitated the entry of illegal drugs into the Philippines through ties with officials in the Bureau of Customs. Lim, whom Acierto also implicated, reportedly ran a drug laboratory in Cavite that was raided by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in July 2018, resulting in a seizure valued at P10.4 billion. Though arrested, Lim was reportedly released due to a technicality.
Acierto said he felt betrayed, because soon after submitting the report, he was accused by Duterte of being involved in illegal drugs.
